Travel won't set you free
Travel is not freedom.
You've been warned. Unpopular opinion coming up.
Don't get me wrong, I love traveling. After all, I'm a millenial.
I've travelled to 35+ countries and I absolutly love learning about different cultures, different views of the world.
But, now that I see my friends reminiscing of days where we could travel, I honestly don't miss it at all.
Freedom is one of my core values but it's not only attained by travelling.
True freedom comes from being free of your thoughts. Do you decide what to think? Are you in control of your own life? Or are you still blaming [insert here boss, ex, collegue, your cards] Are you in control of your emotions? Or someone comes and steal easily your calm, peace or happiness?
True freedom comes from being free of expectations of other people. Do you still care about what [mother, father, friend] thinks about your decisions? Are you doing things because of a need of approval? Is your bucketlist truly yours or is it to please someone else? Are you doing it for the likes? or because it sets your soul on fire?
True freedom comes from being coherent. Are you keeping your word to yourself and others? Do you think, say, act according to your values?
Let's start, we are all blessed already. Just the odds of one sperm reaching an egg and you coming to this world. It's a blessing. We arrived blessed. But some of us believe we are blessed and act accordigly and some of us don't.
I was the first to roll my eyes when people said to me start with gratitude. But it truly shifts your focus. Are you grateful for the things you have? For the little things we take for granted. Breathing, and if you are reading this, your ability to read and the Internet to allow us to connect.
Are you free from your desires? Or are you a slave of everything that you yet don't have/manifested/achieved? It's great to have a clear aim of where you are going but girl please enjoy where you are right now. Have you notice that you don't need much to be content? Take a break and the next 20 sec hand wash just make a habit of naming 10 things you are grateful for. Simple as that.
Running away is the easy road, going to the next place or the next shiny object will always be there to distract us. But true freedom lays within.
Use this time to train your brain and your mind.
I invite you to go into a journey inwards to control your thoughts, actions, and feelings my beautiful friend.
It's the greatest journey I've started, and we don't need a plane ticket for it.
